COMMENTARY
1/5/2014 5:20PM - No doubt the highlight of the week was the nor'easter that pummeled the Northeast Thursday-Friday. Boston had the most snow from the storm and was also the highest scorer of the week with 73.5 points. They improved to 4-1, defeating struggling Syracuse. It wasn't easy for LaGuardia but they managed to scrape a win against Bridgeport and protecting their perfect record, keeping up with Worcester and Providence as the only cities without a loss who both won their respective matchups. Meanwhile, on the other hand, Islip got their first win of the season finally against Binghamton. It was about time they broke through... Islip is the 3rd best scorer in the Mid-Atlantic Conference despite no wins until this week. Another first time winner was Montpelier who upset divisional leader Burlington. Rutland and Willimantic are now the only two left without recording a win.
12/31/2013 5:30PM - Amazing we're only less than a day away from 2014. Where has 2013 gone? Haha. Anyways, the New Year will start out with a bang - a substantial snowstorm is in the works spanning a wide area of the Northeast. Places in Southern New England should see the most with areas there that could see more than a foot before it's said and done. Totals will be aided by the cold air out of Canada which will increase snow ratios and make for puffy snow. No doubt fireworks brewing for Week 5! Make sure to keep up to date on the scores here...also follow @WMassWx for actual updates and the latest of the upcoming snowstorm!

COMMENTARY
12/29/2013 1:10PM - Week 4 is over and all three of the undefeated retained their perfect record. Pittsfield scored its first win of the season after securing a close win over Taunton. The highest scorer of Week 4 was Buffalo (59.6 points) followed by Caribou (54.3 pts) and Bangor (44.7 pts).
12/23/2013 12:00AM - It's Week 4 and we're almost a quarter of the way through the winter season already! Forecast for this week: mild start for the majority in the Northeast but not so in Northern New England especially Maine where they receive a little ice and snow to start the week. Rain associated with a frontal wave arrives Monday and could be heavy at times along the coast. Tuesday and Wednesday looks to be mostly quiet but colder in time for Christmas. After Wednesday though, there is high uncertainty. Expecting calm weather for now but there's always hope forecasts change and shake things up for Week 4!

COMMENTARY
12/22/2013 1:35PM - There were a few great endings to the week! First of all, the featured matchup between Worcester and Syracuse came down to the last day. Worcester managed to hold onto a 14-point lead despite Syracuse's 0.63" rainfall on Saturday...winning by a little more than a point. Pittsburgh came back on the last day, earning their first win by defeating Trenton and in doing so, handed Trenton their first loss of the season. Another first-time winner was Binghamton who came back against Pittsfield... recording 0.50" of rain on Day 7. And finally, saving the best for last, Buffalo had one of the most impressive comebacks in league history to date vs. Islip. Down 25.3 points with 2 days remaining, it seemed like it was hopeless for Buffalo. But rainfall on the last 2 days, including a daily record rainfall of 1.12" set on the last day, helped Buffalo pull off a stunning victory over Islip. The final score was Buffalo 68.4, Islip 57.3 - Buffalo pulling away in dramatic fashion! The game was also the highest combined score between two teams so far (125.7).
The Standings page is being worked on and will hopefully be up and updated in the next few days.
NOTE: After Week 3, only 3 undefeated cities are left standing - Worcester, LaGuardia, and Providence
12/18/2013 8:00PM - Tabulated the data from the last two days and in addition to the snowfall from yesterday, I saw that we had some cold temperatures in the north country of New England: -20 in Montpelier and -16 in Caribou. Talk about bone-chilling cold! Potentially some more wintry weather for Northern New England this weekend but areas south will be dealing with a substantial warmup and soaking rainfall, eroding the snowpack along with it. A shame for those who want a white Christmas. Still plenty of winter to go though!
12/16/2013 8:05PM - After the weekend snowstorm, Week 3 begins with another round of snow associated with an Alberta clipper system that is expected to bring wintry white for Pennsylvania, strengthening over New England where some parts there could receive up to 6-10 inches. A moderate warm-up trend starts after Wednesday. Then toward the weekend, we will watch a disturbance tap moisture from the Gulf that will head north toward the Northeast, with rain and snow impacts along with it. Should be another interesting week in store!

COMMENTARY
12/15/2013 8:35PM - There was only one comeback on the last day of the week which featured the first significant snowstorm of the season but it was a dramatic finish! Burlington managed to edge Bangor by a razor-margin of one tenth of a point! Some light snow with a liquid equivalent of 0.15" for Burlington yesterday helped them defeat Bangor, who unfortunately was snow-less on the last day and that made all the difference. Shoutout to Atlantic City (72.5 points) and Philadelphia (63.2 points) for strong performances and both are at 2-0 for the season.
12/14/2013 1:30AM - Snow is on the way for the Northeast! Time for a chance of a last-day comeback, especially for NY and New England locales where they are expected to receive the brunt of the storm.
12/10/2013 6:45PM - The intense snow band in Philly Sunday and rain from yesterday helped them leapfrog over Montpelier. After coming off of a good win over Buffalo last week, Philadelphia strives to become 2-0 with a victory. Meanwhile, Baltimore and Washington D.C. are having a shootout contest, both sides recording substantial precip on the first 2 days...and with snowfall from today, we may see blood between these two foes, you never know. ;) The Mid-Atlantic region has been doing superb with the rain and snow recently. Looks like we quiet down for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday but Saturday-Sunday timeframe is awfully interesting. There is potential for the first major snow event for the Northeast...I'll just leave it at that. The suspense is building for sure!
12/8/2013 4:25PM - Promising start to Week 2 with snow showers affecting the Mid-Atlantic, including an intense snow band over the Philadelphia area that played a role in the Eagles game. These snow showers will spread into New England on Monday, in the form of snow, freezing rain, sleet, rain... the whole package! Definitely be interesting to see who comes out on top after Monday! Good luck everyone!

COMMENTARY
12/8/2013 9:15AM - The first week of the regular season is complete! The biggest surprise was stated yesterday - the fact that every one of the four undefeated preseason teams lost. And 4 out of the 6 locations who lost every preseason game won Week 1! So yeah...very unpredictable in the sense that one storm/event can reverse a lead. Harrisburg and Providence took joint position as the top scorers of Week 1 with each scoring 30.7 points.
12/7/2013 2:15PM - Yesterday was "moving day" for many. 11 out of 16 games the team losing (or tied, in the case of Taunton-Montpelier) before Friday came back and took the lead outright. Impressive and shows how a single storm can change the tide in a matter of one day. The Mid-Atlantic cities did especially well - Central Park, Philadelphia, Trenton, Washington D.C. among those. Surprisingly, all 4 locations who remained undefeated in the preseason (Bradford, JFK Airport, Pittsfield, and Portland) are losing right now with a day left to go. Who would have thought?
12/6/2013 11:40PM - @NEXWL: 3 matches separated by <1 point, most notably Taunton-Montpelier who are TIED at 9.9 apiece. Tonight's storm crucial!
The other 2 close battles with 2 days to go: Worcester 9.1 - Pittsfield 9 and Willimantic 6.7 - Windsor Locks 6.3 #NEXWL
12/4/2013 10:35PM - So far, the first 3 days have been relatively quiet but the end of the week should be more exciting with a shot of cold diving into the Northeast and rain and snow arriving Thursday-Friday. It will be a furious finish to the week!
12/2/2013 8:30PM - Providence surges ahead of JFK Airport after 0.69" of rain dropped thanks to a stalled coastal front. Portland and Boston were also beneficiaries from rainfall. A few other locations received rain yesterday but those three stood out the most. Awaiting observations from Taunton and Willimantic... seems like the data is delayed. Hopefully the issue gets resolved soon. The second half of week looks to be active as a low is expected to cross over the Great Lakes. Should be the first decent "storm" of the season!
12/1/2013 4:30PM - This is the moment we've been waiting for and it's finally here. The regular season kicks off today! The chill is in the air and we run the risk of a few minor disturbances crossing the Northeast bringing the chance for rain or snow showers. Northern New England and Northern NY are in the target zone for accumulating snowfall today and tomorrow which should help them get off to a good start.
