1/30/2014 9:30PM - It's been a quiet so far but we should round up the week with a low moving across the Great Lakes and bringing a chance of a wintry mix and snow to northern parts of the region. Could make the difference if the match is tight!

LaGuardia (6-2) 39.7 vs. JFK Airport (5-3) 50.2 - LaGuardia is coming in on the heels of their first loss of the season. Can they rebound against divisional rival JFK Airport or will JFK Airport close the gap?
Trenton (6-2) 39.1 vs. Bangor (5-3) 39.8 - Even though Trenton's record is superior than Bangor's, one has to think Bangor is favored here. It's mid-January after all. But this week's pattern may favor Trenton with a clipper impacting the Mid-Atlantic coast on Tuesday. Will it be enough though?

COMMENTARY
1/26/2014 1:55PM - It was an interesting week! There were lots of tight matches heading into the last day. Bangor managed to battle back from a near 4 point deficit against Trenton by beating Trenton in all 3 criterias - low temps, precip, and winds. It was an important win for them to stay within one game behind the top leaders of the division (Caribou, Portland, Concord)...all three of them won their respective matches. Got to give some credit to Willimantic, they fought a good battle and came within 1.3 points of upsetting Portland but to no prevail. Seems like it was off day for Portland and Willimantic ALMOST took advantage. At the end of the week though, Willimantic is still without a W in the win column and they'll have to face Worcester next. Prayers needed.
Providence is racing neck to neck with Worcester after beating Windsor Locks and if they both win this week, they are scheduled to clash on Super Bowl Sunday with 9-0 records! I said *if* because Providence meets Caribou this week which is not an easy W for sure. It looks like a mainly dry stretch so that should bode well for Caribou with their low temps. Even so, it's going to be a phenomenal battle between the top two cities of the league!
Other results to note: JFK Airport manhandled LaGuardia and now within one game out of the divisional lead. Islip has a 4-game winning streak rolling after downing Washington D.C. Incredible considering they started the season 0-4! Bridgeport upsets Pittsfield 36.3-29.5, capturing their second win of the season.
The weekly "Top Honors" Award goes to Buffalo with 54 points, who handled Central Park easily. If you followed the Twitter feed, you know that Central Park had issues with wind obs in particular. That seems to be resolved today which is good news and fortunately, there is no need for a backup city at the moment. I'm hoping it was only a minor glitch and that there are no more issues in the future. Central Park is heading in the opposite direction as Islip, losing 6 straight after starting the season 2-0. Second place goes to JFK Airport (50.2 points) and third place goes to Philadelphia (49.7 points), who had a foot of snow from Tuesday's storm.

1/19/2014 9:30PM - This week will feature arctic air rushing into the Northeast for the upcoming days. Many will make it to the single digits and teens...probably below zero for the northern country. Also, a clipper system is expected to form and impact Tuesday-Tuesday night with snow from DC up to SNE, especially along the coastlines. With the cold air surging in, it won't take much for accumulations and there may be some surprises...hmmm. Models are hinting at another end of the week snowfall opportunity so that's another thing to look forward to. Always stay up to date here on the scores and follow @NEXWL for updates!

Providence (7-0) 37.2 vs. LaGuardia (6-1) 22.3 - It's the battle of the undefeateds! Which one will falter and suffer their first loss of the season? Going in, Providence is a slight favorite, outscoring LaGuardia in total points throughout the season (250.3-243.6). But that really doesn't mean a whole lot and it's all about who steps up when it counts. And who knows... this could be an early preview of the NEXWL Championship Game...
Bangor (4-3) 25.9 vs. Portland (5-2) 36.7 - In a division like ME/NH where everyone has a winning record, it becomes very important to keep on winning and not slip up. And these divisional matchups becomes all the more crucial in the pursuit of the division crown.
Buffalo (5-2) 35.5 vs. Syracuse (3-4) 27.6 - Buffalo and Syracuse have met once in Week 2 of the preseason and it was a very close encounter. Buffalo managed to squeak by Syracuse that week 47.1-47 (one-tenth of a point!) with Syracuse almost coming through on the last day. Now it's the regular season and this game will determine who takes possession of first in the NY State Division. Both are lake-effect snow powerhouses and indeed, there are chances for snow in Western NY this week!

COMMENTARY
1/19/2014 2:00PM - Only two remain with perfect records after Providence downs LaGuardia in convincing fashion 37.2-22.3. Taunton almost put a scare to Worcester on the last day with the moderate-heavy rain Taunton received. Worcester managed to close it out by 3 points but not without a good fight at the end! One comeback from yesterday was Harrisburg against Montpelier. Harrisburg came away with the W, squeaking out 0.05" of precip on Day 7 which was enough to squeak by Montpelier, who drops to 1-6 on the season. Portland and Buffalo both scored comfortable victories against their divisional counterparts.
The "Top Honors" Award - the city/town which earned the most points of the week - goes to Boston (40.6 points) which would have beaten Worcester (40.3 points) if they had matched up one week later!
Poor Willimantic...the only location without a win under their belt. And the chances for a W is slim with Portland next up...
1/13/2014 10:00PM - There are important matches this week that could be a factor later down the road come playoff time. Definitely the highlight of Week 7 is the Providence vs. LaGuardia encounter. Both have perfect records and it's going to be quite interesting how this one shapes up. The forecast is calling for milder air to work into the Northeast and rain is starting to move in as I'm speaking. Following on Wednesday-Thursday, a weak system along a cold front will swing through the Great Lakes, which will surely shake things up for the Buffalo vs. Syracuse contest. Some of it could survive into New England as well but mostly scattered and light. Toward the end of the week into Saturday is what we're watching closely. A piece of energy dives south down along the jet stream and depending on the timing or location where it forms, it could be a minor or a more substantial storm for the Northeast. Might favor Northern New England and play a pivotal role in the Bangor vs. Portland match. Too early to tell though I can take an end of the week storm anyday, it's fine with me haha. Stay tuned and check here for the latest scores and updates!

COMMENTARY
1/13/2014 4:15PM - Wrapping up Week 6 of the NEXWL...Providence managed to plow ahead of Taunton in what was a lopsided ending with Providence outpacing Taunton's total by more than 10 points on the last day and keeping their undefeated streak alive. Talking about being undefeated... LaGuardia scored a comfortable win over Central Park setting up the stage for a blockbuster battle of the undefeateds between these two for this week! Either Providence or LaGuardia will suffer their first loss of the season...which one is anyone's guess!

1/11/2014 4:05PM - With a day left to go, there are a couple tight contests to resolve! Today is going to be active as most of the Northeast, if not all, are going to be drenched posing the risk of flooding problems in localized areas as the snow and ice begins to melt from the warm temps. Also along with the rain, there will be strong gusts along coastal areas. The closest match by far is between Providence and Taunton. Providence holds a very slim tenth of a point lead and any slipup today could bring their first loss of the season for them! Interesting how that one shapes up. In addition, in the Mid-Atlantic Conference, Bradford is leading Rutland 35.3-33, a little more than 2 points but with precip into the equation, Rutland has a chance of earning their first win. Finally, Baltimore has come back with a vengeance, recording 0.53" of precip yesterday and stands only two points away from Islip. Can they finish it off?!

1/7/2014 11:30PM - Whoa! We're already aquarter (EDIT: Pardon my math, a third!) of the season in and through the blizzard and the cold, last week was an eventful one to start the new year. Week 6 is all about the cold and the lake-effect. In fact, Buffalo is cashing big time as they are under a Blizzard Warning...high winds whipping heavy snow around and some parts in the Buffalo metro could end up with more than 2 feet when it finally tapers tomorrow. Buffalo and Syracuse both recorded a 46mph wind gust Monday which is the highest reading so far in the season. With that alone, it totals up to 10.8 points (0.4*46-7.6=10.8). Every place in the Northeast recorded precip Monday. Looking ahead toward the weekend, expecting a warm-up to take place and a soaker to end the week. The models are depicting widespread rainfall with everyone in play so things can change quick! Keep it here for the latest and follow your favorite!

1/13/2014 4:15PM - Wrapping up Week 6 of the NEXWL...Providence managed to plow ahead of Taunton in what was a lopsided ending with Providence outpacing Taunton's total by more than 10 points on the last day and keeping their undefeated streak alive. Talking about being undefeated... LaGuardia scored a comfortable win over Central Park setting up the stage for a blockbuster battle of the undefeateds between these two for this week! Either Providence or LaGuardia will suffer their first loss of the season...which one is anyone's guess!
